The Kampong
Dr. Eleanor Galt Simmons Room
4013 South Douglas Road
Miami, Florida

This multisensory solo exhibition by Miami artist Meg Wallace examines relationships among nature, memory, vulnerability, and care. Presented in the former medical office of Dr. Eleanor Galt Simmons, the setting holds particular resonance for Wallace, whose background in clinical and integrative healthcare informs an artistic practice attentive to healing and dignity.

Inspired by South Florida’s coastal mangrove ecosystems, the installation brings together film, painting, ambient sound, natural objects, and selections from The Kampong’s permanent collection.

At its center is Whispers Beneath the Canopy, an observational film composed from footage Wallace captured at The Kampong and Deering Estate. Attuned to the environment’s shifting rhythms, the film reveals stillness and sudden movement as interconnected expressions of a living ecosystem.

Visitors are invited to slow down, look closely, and experience the exhibition at their own pace.
